RSS Marketing - the market opportunity
March 31st, 2006
Some interesting numbers from emarketer in relation to a recent survey on marketing planning and spend.
In the same poll, this time asking about actual spending plans, RSS marketing came out top.
We’ve seen an explosion of interest in RSS marketing over the past quarter – this of course makes the leading rss marketing vendor very happy.

RSS event in Cork, Ireland
March 31st, 2006
Blogging activity has been limited – apologies for radio silence – all with good reason.
Anyway, I attended an excellent event in Cork (or the Republic of Cork) last Monday – titled: Business Uses of RSS
Tom Raftery did an excellent job in pulling this event together.
For more details on the event check the ITCork blog.
My co-speakers, Rob Burke from Microsoft (fresh from his trip to Mix06), and John Dunne from CSO gave great presentations.
CSO in particular was very interesting – they are using nooked for publication of National statistics through RSS, and they are also working on a pan-European project on sharing statistics (via RSS) which is really impressive.
I was impressed by the size of audience, the awareness of RSS and the interest in utilizing RSS at a commercial level.

iLife and RSS

Michael Gartenberg struggled over the weekend with iLife
“This is one the things I feared about RSS in the past, fragmentation that makes it hard for users to see what they want and publishers who may not even realize their stuff isn’t being read. It’s time to get this fixed.”

BBC Feed Factory - makes life easier....
January 16th, 2006
Spotted BBC Feed Factory in NMA Friday morning last.
An example to all other media companies – how you can provide a straight forward introduction to RSS technology.
Quote from article
“Once you understand how they work, RSS feeds are really simple to use. Feed Factory not only seeks to demystify this world but also showcases on a single page what’s on offer” – Tony Ageh, Internet Controller at the BBC

nooked keeps jargon to a minimum

Some kind words from Rich at eStrategyOne
“Until recently, I always received the same enlightened response—huh? But RSS is gaining traction these days, and any company serious about online content must participate. But once you’re ready to take the plunge, step two can be puzzling. But help has finally arrived. Of all the RSS services I’ve encountered, nooked, RSS Marketing Made Simple, is clearly your best bet for learning the medium, creating, promoting, and tracking your feeds. nooked keeps jargon to a minimum and explains the benefits of RSS relative to email marketing. Get with the program at nooked, and tell ‘em you heard about it from The eStrategyOne Buzz.”
